Truthtalkziraq becomes 3 Sufis 3

Dear Reader (Of One, Me, At the Moment):

Welcome back, sort of.  I once had a blog called Truthtalkziraq, which I started with Paulette over at Loyola in the heady days of 2003-04, in the wake of the U.S. invasion of Iraq.   I used to post links and texts of relevant articles as something of a news digest, and at the blog’s peak, it attracted some 365 unique readers a week.  Nothing great, but “it coulda been a contender.”  We’ll see if 3 Sufis 3 does any better — even though facebook has reduced the need to yell at the world through a blog.  Now you can yell at the world via facebook, and truly annoy your friends.

For the curious, 3 Sufis 3 is something of a joke, loosely based on the 1980s faux Yugoslav group 3 Mustafas 3, which hit me when I put together the banner.  In other words, in searching for images to put on my personal web page, I found the above shot from 15th century Central Asian artist Siyah Kalem of 3 Sufi-esque itinerants.  That reminded me of 3 Mustafas 3, and thus the name was born.

This personal site is a mix of the professional, political, and personal.  Once it’s up and running, it should have this blog, course blogs, syllabi, publications, relevant weblinks, pdfs of primary sources for Ottoman history, photos, resume/CV, etc.  Hopefully, I’ll keep up with it, and over time, hopefully it’ll grow.  Worse case, it’s an archive of futility.

Enjoy.

Me.
